The Khuvsgul lake is located in the northwest of Mongolia near the border to Russia, at the foot of the eastern Sayan Mountains. It is 1,645 m above sea level, 136 km long and 262 m deep. It is the second-most voluminous freshwater lake in Asia and holds almost 70% of Mongolia’s fresh water and 0.4% of all the fresh water in the world. The lake is surrounded by several mountain ranges. The highest mountain is the Burenkhaan/Munkh Saridag (3,492 m). The lake is inhabited by nine species of fish, including the Siberian grayling, sturgeon, and lenok and the area is rich with various species of flora and fauna. You will see one of the nicest sceneries and landscapes Mongolia has to offer. The area is home to the famous argali sheep, ibex, bear, sable, moose, and wolves. The region hosts three separate, unique people: Darkhad, Buryat, and Tsaatan. Shamanism is the religion of choice in these parts, we will visit all the sites and cultural features that lake Khuvsgul has to offer.
Arrival in Ulaanbaatar City
Where we will pick you up from the airport, followed by breakfast or lunch, depending on your arrival time and a short rest from your flight. You will then meet with the crew to receive your equipment etc., followed by a safety briefing and general Q&A as well as a short test ride to get used to your bike. If desired our staff can then take you to do some cashmere shopping.
Ulaanbaatar to Elsen Tasarkhai Sand Dunes via Khustai National Park
Distance: 276 km
We will start our tour after breakfast and ride by the Khustai National Park and pass by ancient gravestones from the Tureg age (4-8 BC). A light lunch will be served on the way. We continue to our beautiful final campsite for that day, Elsen Tasarkhai.
Dinner will be served, a delicious BBQ and bonfire in the open wild.
Khustain Nuruu National Park
Tuv province, in between Altanbulag, Argalant and Bayankhangai soums area incredibly beautiful landscape and wild horses called Takhi the Przewalski horse’s only living place on earth. On an average 1500-1700m. a.s.l. The highest peak is Khushuut mountain 1842m tall. The lowest point is 1190m Tariatiin Bulag. It’s Khentii mountains south-west wing. At the mountaintop to the north slope, there is 2080 hectare of birch forest. Park has 450 species of plants almost all of them are medicinal plants, red deers, antelopes, wild boars, many species of rodents and 260 species of birds live here.
Elsen Tasarkhai sand dunes are steep and perfect for jumping on a motorcycle. It stretches north to south 80 km. Elsen Tasarkhai is literally translated Sand Cut in English. Camel riding on the sand dune and local foods are highlights of this place.
Elsen Tasarkhai to Orkhon River Valley via Kharkhorin town
Distance: 200 km
We will ride to Orkhon River Valley via Kharkhorin which is the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire. Lunch will be served on the way during the 157 km that day. The night will be spent in tents, right next to the Orkhon Waterfall, Mongolia’s largest waterfall! For everyone who doesn’t mind cold water, it is possible to go swimming under the waterfall.
Orkhon River Valley to Tsenkher Hot Spa
Distance: 120 km
We start riding to Tsenkher Hot Spa which reaches up to +80 C degrees and you have the chance to bathe under the sky. We will ride through beautiful nature with mountains, trees and grass fields.

Tsenkher Hot Springs to Zuun Lake via White Lake
Distance: 250 km
Ride through the endless grasslands and several rivers to our camp spot for that night next to Zuun Nuur. The scenery is simply beautiful, you are surrounded by mountains and trees next to a lake. Lunch will be served on the way. Our destination for the day will be reached after an exciting km. Overnight stay in a tent in the open wilderness.
Zuun Lake to Khuvsgul Lake
Distance: 240 km
We will approach the highlight of the trip – the Khuvsgul Lake. It is located in the northwest of Mongolia near the border to Russia, at the foot of the eastern Sayan Mountains. It is 1,645m above sea level, 136 km long and 262m deep. We will stay in a camp by Khatgal village which located on the
southwest side of the lake for two nights.
Khuvsgul lake to Tarialan soum
Distance: 246 km
We will head to Tarialan soum. Today is all about riding through beautiful scenery. Sceneries of nature on the way will take your breath away.
Tarialan soum to Erdenet city
Distance: 274 km
Reaching Erdenet city. It is the second largest city in Mongolia, its main industry is mining and agriculture. Lunch will be served on the go and we will spend the night at the local hotel.
Erdenet city to Ulaanbaatar city
Distance: 330 km
Time to go home, we start riding back to Ulaanbaatar. It’s going to be the longest ride of the trip 386 km (Optionally we can arrange a private bus transfer from Erdenet city if you don’t feel like riding that far) Lunch will be served on the way by a Nomad family. We have reserved a farewell dinner for you at Ulaanbaatar's best hot pot restaurant. You are free to also experience the famous Ulaanbaatar's nightlife, our staff will take you around and make sure everything goes smoothly.
